Pergolas

Powder-coated aluminum and cedar pergolas, fixed or louvered, that put adjustable shade exactly where Ohio’s sun and rain need managing.

Overview

Built once, built right

TAB Property Enhancement is an eight-time Best of Houzz winner, and a pergola is one of the highest-impact pieces we build. It turns an exposed patio or deck into usable space by controlling sun, light, and rain. The material and the roof type decide how much control you get and how little upkeep it asks of you. Shade you can dial in changes how often you use the space.

We build in powder-coated aluminum and western red cedar, matched to the structure and the look you want. Aluminum is the low-maintenance route: it won’t rot, warp, or need refinishing, and it carries a louvered roof whose blades pivot to open the sky or close against rain. For louvered aluminum we install three systems we trust against Ohio weather: PERGOLUX, The Luxury Pergola, and the Hideaway TitanCover. Cedar gives you natural warmth, takes stain, and suits a fixed-beam or slatted roof. We engineer the footings and connections for Ohio wind and snow load, so the structure stands without sagging or racking.

Every pergola starts with a design conversation and a 3D rendering, so you see the proportions, post placement, and roof style against your home before we set a post. We pull permits where the structure needs them, and our crews handle the footings, framing, and full install. No subcontractor handoffs on the structure itself.

The reason to plan a pergola early is everything that runs through it. Low-voltage lighting in the beams, a ceiling fan, motorized screens to close in the space, a heater for the shoulder seasons, and the patio or deck underneath all connect better when they’re designed together. Wiring set during the build beats fishing it through finished beams later.

What's included

The difference is in the build

  • Louvered aluminum roof

Powder-coated aluminum blades pivot from open sky to full rain cover, so you control sun and shade through the day.

  • Cedar or aluminum

Choose western red cedar for natural warmth or powder-coated aluminum for a structure that never needs sanding, staining, or sealing.

  • Engineered for snow

Footings and connections sized for Ohio wind and snow load, so the pergola stands square without sagging or racking.

  • Wired for extras

Lighting, fans, heaters, and motorized screens planned into the frame during the build, not bolted on after.

How it works

From first walk-through to final board

  1. 1

    Design consultation

We look at the patio or deck, the sun, and the house, talk through fixed versus louvered, and set the size and budget.

  2. 2

    3D design & rendering

You see the pergola in place before we build: proportions, post placement, roof style, and material, adjusted until it's right.

  3. 3

    Build

Our crews set the footings, frame the structure, install the roof, and wire in any lighting, fans, or screens in the plan.

  4. 4

    Final walk-through

We show you how a louvered roof or any motorized features work, and hand off care guidance and warranty paperwork.

Common questions

Questions homeowners ask

Do you handle the permits, or is that on me?

We handle every permit: applications, fees, inspections, and final sign-off. You'll sign a form or two, and we deal with your municipality directly. We've pulled permits across dozens of Northeast Ohio communities and know what each building department wants before we submit.

Will subcontractors be doing the work on my home?

Our core construction crews are in-house TAB staff: decks, structures, hardscape, all of it. We bring in licensed specialists for electrical, gas, and plumbing, the same Ohio trades we've worked with for years. Your project lead is on-site or reachable throughout, whoever is working that day.

What happens if I want to change something during the build?

Change orders are normal on custom work. When something comes up, we quote it in writing before any work proceeds, including any effect on the timeline. You approve every change before we make it, and nothing surprises you at billing.

Should I choose aluminum or cedar?

It's a trade between upkeep and look. Powder-coated aluminum is the low-maintenance choice: it won't rot, warp, crack, or need refinishing, and it's what carries an adjustable louvered roof. Western red cedar gives you natural wood warmth and grain, takes stain to match a deck or trim, and suits a fixed or slatted roof, but it wants periodic sealing to hold up to Ohio weather. If you want a roof you can open and close and never want to refinish anything, go aluminum. If the natural-wood look matters most, cedar.

What’s the difference between a louvered and a fixed roof?

A fixed roof is set: open slats for filtered shade, or solid for full cover, but it doesn't change. A louvered roof has blades that pivot, so you open them for sun and full sky, angle them for partial shade, or close them tight against rain. Powered louvered roofs do it with a remote, and some include rain sensors that close automatically. Louvered costs more and gives you the most control over the space. Fixed is simpler and a strong fit when you know you want shade in one spot.

What’s covered under your warranty?

Two layers. Our workmanship warranty covers the structure and installation, and the manufacturer warranties cover the components: the powder-coated aluminum system and any louvered-roof or motorized hardware, registered on your behalf. Aluminum louvered systems typically carry strong multi-year finish and hardware warranties. You get the full paperwork at the final walk-through.

We had a gazebo, paver patio and grill island built around our pool by Tab and the structures came out great. They are good people to work with and stand behind their work. As with any custom project we had some obstacles along the way but they always had a solution. Trace is a great trustworthy guy that really cares about the customer and is very responsive. Dan and the crew also made sure we were happy with everything along the way and answered and addressed any questions or tweaks we made during construction. All in all our structures turned out great and Trace made sure we were completely happy with everything. I'd definitely recommend Tab for any projects around the house outside or inside.
