Fire Pits & Fireplaces

Unilock and Techo-Bloc fire features and custom fireplaces, gas or wood, built into the patio so the heat draws people together across all four seasons.

Overview

Built once, built right

TAB Property Enhancement is a Unilock Authorized Contractor and an eight-time Best of Houzz winner. A fire feature is the piece of the yard people actually gather around. Done right, it pulls your outdoor season from a few summer evenings into spring and fall. The build details are what make that happen.

We build fire pits and fireplaces in Unilock or Techo-Bloc hardscape, matched to your patio or set as the anchor the rest of the space works around. You choose the fuel. A natural gas burner lights with a switch and never needs refilling, or a wood-burning box gives you the smell and crackle of a real fire. Gas runs on a dedicated line we plumb in; wood units get proper firebrick and clearances built to code.

Every fire feature starts with a design conversation and a 3D rendering, so you see how it sits in the space, how close the seating is, and how the materials read before we build. Our crews handle the hardscape and the seat walls, and a licensed Ohio pro makes the gas connection. One coordinated build.

We plan the fire feature with the seating around it, not as an afterthought. Built-in seat walls, the gas line, low-voltage lighting on the surrounding patio, and clearance from the house and any pergola all get set early. A fire pit added later means tearing into a finished patio. Planned in from the start, it’s part of one clean install.

What's included

The difference is in the build

  • Gas or wood

Choose a natural gas burner you light with a switch, or a wood-burning firebox built with proper firebrick and code clearances.

  • Unilock & Techo-Bloc

The pit or fireplace is built in Unilock or Techo-Bloc block and stone, matched to your patio so it reads as one designed space, not a drop-in kit.

  • Built-in seating

Seat walls and benches go in around the fire as part of the build, sized so the warmth reaches everyone and the layout works.

  • Plumbed gas line

A dedicated gas line, run and connected by a licensed Ohio pro, means no propane tanks to haul, hide, or refill.

How it works

From first walk-through to final board

  1. 1

    Design consultation

We look at where the fire feature fits the yard, how the seating wraps it, and how it relates to the house, then set the budget.

  2. 2

    3D design & rendering

You see the fire feature in the space before we build: materials, scale, seating, and placement, adjusted until it's right.

  3. 3

    Build

Our crews build the hardscape and seat walls, and a licensed pro makes the gas connection. Lighting and surrounding patio work tie in here.

  4. 4

    Final walk-through

We show you how the burner and any controls work, review clearances and care, and hand off the paperwork.

Common questions

Questions homeowners ask

Do you handle the permits, or is that on me?

We handle every permit: applications, fees, inspections, and final sign-off. You'll sign a form or two, and we deal with your municipality directly. We've pulled permits across dozens of Northeast Ohio communities and know what each building department wants before we submit.

Will subcontractors be doing the work on my home?

Our core construction crews are in-house TAB staff: decks, structures, hardscape, all of it. We bring in licensed specialists for electrical, gas, and plumbing, the same Ohio trades we've worked with for years. Your project lead is on-site or reachable throughout, whoever is working that day.

What happens if I want to change something during the build?

Change orders are normal on custom work. When something comes up, we quote it in writing before any work proceeds, including any effect on the timeline. You approve every change before we make it, and nothing surprises you at billing.

Should I go with gas or wood?

It comes down to how you'll use it. Gas lights instantly with a switch or key, throws consistent heat, and leaves nothing to clean up, which makes it the easy choice for regular weeknight use. Wood gives you the crackle, the smell, and a bigger, livelier flame, but you're sourcing and storing wood and dealing with ash. Some clients run gas in a main fireplace and keep a separate wood pit for the nights they want the real thing. We'll walk through the trade-offs for your space.

Can we really use it outside of summer?

That's the point of building one. A fire feature is what makes a patio comfortable on cool spring and fall evenings, and plenty of our clients use a gas fireplace on clear winter nights too. Pairing it with the right seating, a pergola or three-season structure, and lighting is what stretches your usable outdoor season from a few months to most of the year. We plan those pieces together for exactly that reason.

What’s covered under your warranty?

Two layers. Our workmanship warranty covers the build and installation, and the manufacturer warranties cover the components: the hardscape guarantee from Unilock or Techo-Bloc, which we register for you, plus the burner manufacturer's warranty on a gas unit. Both back many products with a transferable lifetime structural guarantee. You get the full paperwork at the final walk-through.
