This Medina backyard is paved nearly wall to wall. We set a light gray large-format paver deck around the pool and ran a herringbone field in darker stone through the lounge and fire pit areas. The raised spa sits in a stacked stone surround we built, capped in cut stone and squared to the deck.
Artificial turf does the work grass could not. We laid it in three panels, a long strip along the back fence for the daybeds, a square off the pool deck, and a run down the side yard. It drains fast and stays green through August, and nobody mows it. Slate chip beds with boulder edging hold the line between turf and fence, lit with path lights.
Under the porch roof we built an L-shaped outdoor kitchen on a stacked stone base, with a granite top, a built-in grill, a pizza oven, a refrigerator, and a bar overhang with stools. A gas fire pit sits at the far corner of the patio.
